Woodward Studio of Dance was established in 1982, by Brenda Alexander. After 40 years, in 2023, she passed the reigns to Taryn Johannesmeyer. WSD is passionate about instilling a love for dance in their students. All instructors continue to study many styles of dance so they are always on the leading edge of dance education and safety. Although dance is our passion, we are dedicated to encouraging our students to achieve excellence in all areas of life. |

Dancing has been Taryn's passion since the age of 3! And she is pleased to say her career began at Woodward Studio of Dance in 1988, when, at her very first recital, her mom soon determined she was not the most talented dancer but she sure was the most enthusiastic. Short and chubby, dressed in her peach tutu, She “twisted” through the entire song! Taryn's dance and cheer pursuits continued for the next 25 years including four years of collegiate cheerleading at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. It was in college, when she was struggling to choose a major, that her mom finally said “Taryn you were born to be a dance teacher.” So she majored in Health and Wellness Promotions, graduating in 2008, and shortly thereafter obtained her early childhood teaching certificate. She's been teaching dance since 2004 and began teaching at Woodward Studio of Dance in 2011, quickly realizing this was her forever home. Taryn is also the head coach of the Boomer Dance Team and was named Oklahoma Dance Team coach of the year in 2019. They have brought home numberous state championships and most recently a national championship. She is married to the most supportive husband, Ryan, who is a firefighter who has graciously embraced the "dance life" and they have twin boys Pace and Porter.

From the moment she could walk, Tatum has loved to dance! She started dancing at Woodward Studio of dance in 2013 at 9 years old. She was quick to realize that the other girls in her class had been in dance classes much longer, and she was going to have to work her way up. With little talent and a huge work ethic, She danced her heart out and began competing in the 7th grade. Soon after she tried out for the Boomer Dance Team at Woodward High School, and was completely stoked after making the team that she had shed blood, sweat, and tears for. After 4 years on the team, she became a 4x state champion and won a National championship in 2021! With graduation coming to a close, Tatum wanted nothing more than to pursue her dance career. She was granted an opportunity to be an assistant at Woodward Studio of Dance, and has now been assisting for 2 years! With the help of Taryn from beginning to end, Tatum could not be more honored to teach at Taryns side for many years to come at Woodward Studio of Dance.

Jacee has been dancing since she was 3 years old at Woodward Studio of Dance. She was also on Boomer Dance Team all throughout high school where she won 2 state championships and a national championship. She continued her dance career at Dallas Baptist University where she won a collegiate national championship. She has loved dance ever since she was 3, but fell in love with teaching when she was a freshman in high school. Jacee assisted and co coached with Taryn for many years and is excited to continue to learn from her while passing on her work ethic and dance knowledge she was given at the studio.
